Liquid Web Expands to Ann Arbor, Plans 75 New Hires

Web hosting provider Liquid Web announced last week that it has signed a lease on a 4,000-square-foot office space in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The office will be opened later this year with 20 employees, but Liquid Web plans to add up to 75 employees at this location over the next three to five years, ranging from customer support technicians to web developers, according to a report by The Detroit News.

Liquid Web currently operates three data center facilities located in Lansing, Michigan, and a software development office and a data center in the Phoenix area.

“In the 17 years since launching Liquid Web, I have watched the city of Ann Arbor make great strides toward becoming a true US technology hub,” Matthew Hill, Liquid Web founder and CEO, said in a statement. “Already benefiting from a handful of talented employees commuting to Lansing from Ann Arbor, we have long desired to integrate with this wonderful city’s growing technological ecosystem and infrastructure. Tapping what has been rightly been recognized as a remarkable talent-base in the Ann Arbor area, we hope extend our services in new and exciting directions in 2014.”

Liquid Web said Michigan is becoming a more popular area to host data due to a number of factors including climate and disaster neutrality. Hosting provider Nexcess also recently announced the opening of a new 16,000-square-foot data center facility in Southfield, Michigan.

In addition to expanding in Ann Arbor, Liquid Web is planning to open a data center location in Europe within the next year.
